Pope Visits Israel

This week, Pope Benedict XVI visited Israel-Palestine as a so-called “pilgrim of peace” to promote “interreligious dialogue” among Christians, Jews and Muslims.

I would like to pose a question to readers: What, if any, influence does the Pope have on international affairs?

Stalin once dismissed the power of the Pontiff by asking rhetorically “How many [army] divisions does the Pope have?”

Some have argued that Pope John Paul II, Benedict’s immediate predecessor, played a large role in the downfall of communism in Poland and other countries in Eastern Europe.

I welcome readers’ comments.
